Season 2 Handbook

The Dance House Handbook

Policies, Waiver & Agreement

Welcome to The Dance House!

We are so excited to have your dancer join us for Season 2! More than just a dance studio, The Dance House is a place where dancers grow in confidence, build friendships, work hard, and discover a lifelong love of dance — all while having fun along the way and feeling at home!

This page covers everything you need to know for the season ahead: our policies, dress code, attendance guidelines, and more. We want your family to feel informed, supported, and right at home here.

Thank you for trusting us with your dancer. We can't wait to grow, dance, and celebrate this next chapter together!

With gratitude, The Dance House

By registering for classes or participating in events, you agree to the following policies and waiver terms. These policies are designed to create a safe, respectful, and supportive experience for all students and families.

1. Liability Waiver

By enrolling in classes at The Dance House, I acknowledge and accept the risks inherent in dance and physical activity. On behalf of myself and my minor child(ren), I waive the right to hold The Dance House, its owners, staff, instructors, and facility liable for any injury or personal loss sustained before, during, or after classes, rehearsals, performances, or studio-related events, whether on or off the premises.

I understand that The Dance House does not provide medical insurance for students and agree that it is my responsibility to maintain appropriate personal or family health insurance coverage.

2. Medical Emergency Release

In the event of a medical emergency, I authorize The Dance House staff to administer basic first aid and to seek emergency medical assistance if necessary. I understand that every reasonable effort will be made to contact a parent or guardian immediately. I release The Dance House and its staff from any liability related to the handling of such emergencies.

3. Tuition & Payment Policies

  • Tuition is due on the 1st of each month.
  • A $25 late fee will be applied to payments received after the 10th.
  • Tuition and all associated fees (registration, production, costumes) are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Tuition is not prorated for missed classes, holidays, or studio closures.
  • Payments can be made through Dance Studio Pro, Zelle, or cash.
  • Returned checks will incur a $30 service fee. Declined credit card payments may incur a $15 fee.
  • Students may not participate in classes unless their account is in good standing.

4. Refunds & Withdrawals

  • A 30-day written notice (email accepted) is required to withdraw from any class.
  • If you choose to unenroll a re-enrollment fee will apply should you choose to return to classes.
  • No refunds will be issued for missed classes, registration, or any fees already paid.
  • Class changes should be made through the studio directly (by email or text) — class changes cannot be made with individual instructors.

See Attendance & Make-Up Classes below for our full make-up policy.

5. Attendance & Make-Up Classes

Regular attendance supports your dancer's progress and group choreography — we ask that families make attending class a priority.

  • Missed classes due to illness: A make-up class may be scheduled, space permitting, in an existing class of the same or similar age/level.
  • Missed classes for any other reason (vacation, scheduling conflicts, etc.) are not eligible for make-up, and tuition is not prorated or refunded for missed classes.
  • Studio-initiated cancellations (weather closures or other unforeseen circumstances requiring us to cancel class) — we will offer a make-up opportunity in an existing class, space permitting.
  • Planned studio holidays (see Studio Holidays & Closures below) are built into the season calendar and are not made up.

To schedule a make-up class, please contact the studio — make-ups cannot be arranged directly with instructors.

6. Annual Performances & Costumes

Participation in annual performances requires a financial commitment to costume and production fees, which are non-refundable.

Recital and costume fees will be announced closer to the date and are collected in February and March.

7. Media Release

I grant permission to The Dance House to take photographs and videos of my child during classes, rehearsals, performances, and events. These may be used in promotional materials including, but not limited to: social media, printed brochures, the studio website, and other advertising efforts.

If you wish to opt out of this release, please email us at thedancehousetx@gmail.com.

8. Participation & Conduct Policy

At The Dance House, we strive to provide a positive and encouraging space for every dancer. To support this mission, we ask that:

  • Dancers arrive on time and dressed appropriately for class.
  • Respect for instructors, fellow dancers, and studio property is expected at all times.
  • Parents and guardians support studio expectations regarding attendance, rehearsal commitments, and behavior.

If a student struggles with conduct expectations, we'll work together with the family to find the best resolution. In some cases, continued disruption may require removal from class or program.

Children under age 10 who are not in class must be supervised by an adult at all times. Families should stay informed through studio emails, social media, and posted notices.

Please note: The Dance House is responsible for dancers only during their scheduled class time. Prompt pick-up is appreciated for everyone's safety.

9. Studio Rules & Safety Guidelines

Help us maintain a safe and welcoming space by observing the following:

  • Water only inside the studios — no food or sugary drinks, please.
  • Street shoes must be removed before stepping onto dance floors.
  • The Dance House is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings.
  • Dancers should use the restroom before class to minimize mid-class breaks.
  • Restrooms are for restroom use only — no playing or loitering.
  • Important: Our restrooms are on a septic system. Please do not flush anything other than toilet paper. All other items must go in the trash bins provided.

10. Dress Code

We keep dress code relaxed and fun — dancers are welcome to be as elaborate, sparkly, colorful, or expressive as they'd like! Our only real rules are about safety, floor grip, and making sure teachers can see body lines when it matters. Comfort and self-expression come first.

Back-to-Back Classes Since Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Contemporary can be scheduled back-to-back on the same night, we recommend dancers wear something that works across styles they are signed up for so there's no need to change between classes. For Ballet, this just means fitted/form-fitting clothing (leotard, tights, or athletic wear) so instructors can see and correct body positioning. When tights are worn and multiple styles taken we recommend convertible tights (they have a hole in the foot so they can be worn over the feet or around the ankle).

**We do ask NO JEANS to be worn to any class!

  • Ballet — Ballet shoes required (tights not required but if worn we recommend convertible tights for reasons above) Boys are welcome to wear tight fitting clothing or shorts and black ballet shoes.
  • Tap / Musical Theater-Tap — Black tap shoes
  • Hip Hop — Clean sneakers used only for class, please — not worn on the street! Hip hop-style clothing is welcome and encouraged.
  • Jazz — Tan jazz shoes, half soles, foot “paws” or bare feet
  • Contemporary — Half soles, foot “paws”, or bare feet
  • Acro/Tumbling — Bare feet; no socks or dresses please — leotards or fitted athletic wear only

Hair & Jewelry

  • Hair pulled back and secured, especially for Acro
  • No dangly jewelry in any class (safety first!)

11. Studio Holidays & Closures

Season 2 begins Welcome Week, the week of August 24th, and runs through our Spring Recital on June 28 & 29.

Specific studio closure dates for the 2026–2027 season will be released by end-August. Please check back or watch for an email update.

Any unexpected closures (due to weather or emergencies) will be communicated via email and text message through Dance Studio Pro.

12. Communications

We use Dance Studio Pro (email & text) for all classroom communications, cancellations, and updates, along with a monthly newsletter covering upcoming dates and studio information. During recital season, families can also find schedules and details on our recital webpage.

For the quickest response to any questions or issues, please text or email the studio directly.

13. Agreement

By registering with The Dance House, I acknowledge that I have read, understood, and agree to all of the policies and waiver terms outlined above. I certify that I am the legal parent or guardian of the enrolled child(ren) and am authorized to accept these terms on their behalf.
